There are so many great San Diego hiking locations, but Mission Trails is a favorite spot for my family to explore. We usually pack up a lunch, prepare a quick scavenger hunt, and head out to the mountains. This time though, we brought my boyfriend and our dog! She was psyched to get out of the house (she is not friendly towards other dogs, sigh). And to take a swim in the river. It’s been so long since she’s been able to swim anywhere.
There’s something about being in nature, far away from the busy-ness of the rest of the city, that’s so soothing to me. Listening to the crickets and the birds, and watching the many dragonflies above the water truly heals my soul every time. No matter what’s going on in life, I know that I have this mini sanctuary, so close to home.
I’m grateful for so many of the San Diego hiking spots we’ve discovered over the years. But this one will always remain my favorite. Not only has it always been easy for my son to hike here at any age, but it’s offered us something different each visit. It truly feels like a new adventure each time we come!
