What an honor it always is to capture a military homecoming, especially when it’s a family’s first deployment!
I met Charlene and her three children at 32nd Street Naval base just as the Navy ship was pulling up. Thankfully, we knew we still had time to wait before anyone was let off. We waited and waited, watching her young daughters dance around with their flags and matching skirts. They had all made a beautiful sign that read “These hands prayed for you” and were holding it high in the air. It featured all of their handprints and I seriously melted into a puddle when I saw it!
All of a sudden, after some time playing around, their Dad walked over! It was a complete shock, and I can’t even explain the excitement that I saw on all three children’s face. Their dad was finally home after seven long months.
Thank you Butler family, for allowing me to be a part of this very special day! Honestly, it’s a favorite military homecoming that I’ve had the honor to capture so far. Children involved in the waiting process always adds so much fun to a homecoming. Their joy, mixed with anxious anticipation makes for the most beautiful images. Scroll through to see for yourself!
