Why Worrying Is a Waste of Energy | How to Reclaim Peace
Worrying may be one of the largest wastes of our energy, and brain power. Have you ever heard the quote about the rocking chair? It goes a little something like this, and it’s one that I keep in mind often: “Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere.”
Throughout our time on this Earth, we change, we grow, and we learn. This is the way of life. We are all constantly going through transitions, and like it has been said over and over, change is the only thing in this world that you can count on. Change is always guaranteed.
There will always be ups and downs. But without these lessons bringing sadness or even anger, how could we ever expect to learn and enjoy the good when it does arrive? These moments are put into place to show us what is no longer working, whether that is within ourselves or in our environment. When we can learn to take a step back, and look at what is truly going on, we can change direction.
But only through realizing what does not feel good, or “right”, can we understand what does.
When these uncertain times come up, as they undoubtedly will, practice pausing. Place your trust in the unknown, ask where the lesson lies, and believe wholeheartedly that all will come together in time.
In order to be happy in the midst of chaos we need to practice centering our mind. We should try not to let our minds to get in the way, but soften and let go. (Did you know you can literally soften and relax the top of your head? Try it!) It doesn’t matter what’s happening around you, it only matters what’s going on inside of you – inside of your thoughts. Try to relax into the situation as much as possible in order to stop worry from taking over. Take pauses. Take breaths. And then continue on.
Stress Management Tips
If all else fails, and you can’t find calm – it may be time to find your chaos.
Scream in your car, hit something, cry until your face hurts. I also love practicing somatic yoga for this. Let. It. Out. All while knowing, eventually, this too will end. And when it does, you will have learned something, and grown, even just a little.
We are all beings in a human body having a human experience. All that we’re asking for is coming in time and will continue to come as long as we’re open and receptive to change. Without change – the ups and downs of life – nothing more can come into our space.
We won’t be able to accept and allow all that is coming to us if we’re only looking for one state of being.
Ups and downs are normal, and to be expected. Without one, how would we know the other? Worrying over every little thing truly does us no good. It only causes resistance to the present moment.
A message I received during meditation:
“Some days all is well, you feel on top of the world. But then you step up, you are tripped so to say. And the rhythm that you once had becomes stopped, it must start over. But now it starts negatively. Then that rhythm picks up, until it becomes strong enough to cause your downfall. You allow this to happen while not paying attention to your rhythm. Your rhythm can be changed at any time, begin a new one, that will catch momentum. You must simply become aware of the moments that trip you up.”
